Storage Engine, Inc. Announces Recovery of Hacked End User Data using the SX6622 and SX7030 Flash Array Systems

Tinton Falls, NJ – October 24, 2024 — Storage Engine, Inc. (SEI), a leading provider of secure data storage solutions for government and commercial clients, recently helped a valued client recover from a devastating ransomware attack orchestrated by the notorious Rhysida Ransomware Group. The attack compromised sensitive personally identifiable information (PII) and demanded a significant ransom for data restoration.

SEI’s Rapid Response Team (SEI-RRT), comprised of seasoned cybersecurity and data recovery experts, was swiftly mobilized. Now leveraging advanced IBM Snapshot technology and Commvault Software, SEI-RRT restored the client’s operations, enabling business continuity without the need for any ransom payment. SEI’s approach to cyber resilience showcases the team’s ability to handle complex data breaches with speed and precision.

“Ransomware Protection Snaps” – A Critical Line of Defense

At the core of SEI’s successful recovery strategy was the FlashStorage’s Snapshot technology, which enabled SEI to revert the client’s data to a safe, point-in-time version prior to the attack. Branded internally by SEI as “Ransomware Protection Snaps,” these snapshots acted as an immutable safeguard, allowing the client to recover clean copies of data before the ransomware infection.

In addition to IBM Snapshots, SEI-RRT utilized Commvault’s robust backup technology, incorporating full, incremental, and synthetic backups to ensure the full restoration of all compromised data. This multi-layered approach ensured rapid recovery while minimizing downtime and financial loss for the client.

Safeguarded Copy – Strengthening Cyber Resilience

The SEI team also implemented SX6622 and SX7030 with Safeguarded Copy, an essential component in protecting against future ransomware threats. Safeguarded Copy creates immutable snapshots that are isolated from the production environment and can’t be modified or deleted by unauthorized users or ransomware. In the event of future cyberattacks, SEI’s clients can quickly revert to these immutable copies, drastically reducing potential damage.

Leading the Way in Secure Data Storage Solutions

“The swift and successful recovery of our client’s data in this incident is a testament to the expertise of SEI’s Rapid Response Team and our long-standing commitment to innovation in secure data storage,” said Gregg Azcuy, CEO of Storage Engine, Inc. “We are proud to offer solutions that ensure our clients can continue operations even in the face of sophisticated cyberattacks.”

For more than 25 years Storage Engine has been providing cost-effective data storage solutions to enterprise users. Storage Engine holds contracts that require a US Department of Defense Facility Clearance. Our uncompromising client support is rated by many to be the best in the industry!
